China is not regarded as a democratic country as in China elections are held in every five years for electing the country's Parliament , called Quanguo Renmin Daibiap Dahui (National People's Congress). Only the national people congress has the power to appoint the president of the country. It has nearly 300 members elected form all over the country of which some are elected by army. Before contesting the election a candidate needs approval of the Chinese Communist Party. Only those who are allowed to contest election can contest election. The government is always formed by the Communist Party

So, only those who are allowed can contest election is a very wrong method of practising democracy. They goes against the ideals of democracy.

Mexico got it's independence in 1930, and this country also hold election in every 6 years of interval but still the country can not termed as a democratic one because the party was following very wrong practises due to which other party can not manage to win until 2000. The party started all the wrong practises as it uses all it's machinery to win election. All the government employees had to attend their party meetings and the teachers were told to force the parents to vote for PRI. Media were under the influence of PRI and sometimes even polling booths were shifted.
