The main difference is that Chinese Buddhism is a mixture of original Buddhism and Taoism.
For example, praying deities with incense was incorporated into Chinese Buddhism from Taoism. Incense is a way to communicate with the spiritual deities.
Some Taoism deities were also incorporated into Chinese Buddhism. This isn’t contradictory to Buddhism teachings as multiple deities exist in the original Buddhism.
