In Biology, the Classification of Living Things, i.e. plants and animals, and naming them was introduced by Swedish Botanist, Carolus Linneaeus. This process is called taxonomy.

The classification system is changing now and then as more and more unknown living organisms are being discovered in forests, oceans, mountains, rivers and so on. Another important reason which is bringing in changes in the classification of plants and animals is the mutations that are taking place in living things.

Scientific theories evolve over a a period of time with the discoveries of newer theories. Same is the case with classification theory when scientist find new attributes of some species they incorporate the classification theory and make some changes in it. For example initially there were just two classes of organism i.e Plants and animals but with the discovery of microscope many tiny structures were studied and complex classification theory was given.
