coal and petroleum are formed due to degradation of bio mass millions of years ago. as these resources are formed at extreme conditions like high temperature and pressure under earth, they are known as earth resources.

Coal and petroleum are formed from the decay of remains of vegetation/ land plant debris which got under the soil due to natural calamities like flood etc. ... Therefore, coal and petroleum are called earth resources
