why are coils of electric toasters and electric irons made of an alloy rather than a pure metal??
Because the resistivity of alloy is higher than the pure metal
These alloys didn't have any free electrons and hence make them to conduct heat energy.
If we use a pure metal instead of alloys then it will not produce sufficient amount of heat energy as it is a good conducto

The resistivity of an alloy is higher than the pure metal. Moreover, at high temperature, the alloys do not melt readily. Hence, the coils of heating appliances such as electric toaster and electric irons are made of an alloy rather than a pure metal.
