you understand this question , when you know what is the importance of "COMMON factors" in mathematics ?
you know , HCF and LCM .
HCF => highest common factors
LCM => Lowest common factors
both are found by given number only when we have well knowledge about " common factors " .
example :-
find HCF of 125 and 120 ?
step 1 :-
Factors of 125 = 5 × 5 × 5
factors of 120 = 2 × 2 × 2 × 3 × 5
step 2 :-
take " COMMON factors "
common factors = 5
hence, HCF = common factor = 5
Actually " COMMON factor is a process in which an integer that divides two (or more) other integers evenly " .
now, I think you got that why we used "common factors " ?
we use common factors for finding HCF in easy way , also in EUClID division lemma it plays very important role .
