Why are concave lens and convex lens called as converging and diverging lens?
Answers
Dear Student,
◆ Spherical lens -
A lens in which each curved surface forms part of a sphere is called spherical lens.
There are two main types of spherical lenses -
(1) Concave lens -
It is thinned out in the middle and concentrates light rays at a point. As it results in convergence of light rays, it is called converging lens.
(2) Convex lens - It is bulged in the middle and spreads apart light rays from each other. As it results in divergence of light rays, it is called diverging lens.
Thanks dear. Hope this helps you..
Answer:
Convex lens- A convex lens is also called a converging lens because ,when the ray of light passes parallel to the principal axis it converges(meet at a single point),so it's called a converging lens.
Concave lens- A concave lens is also called a diverging lens, because when the ray of light coming parallel to principle axis after refraction through the concave lens diverges and when we produced these rays backward they appears to meet at a point called focus, since lens diverges the ray of light that is why it is called diverging lens.
