Why are convex mirror preferred over plane mirror as real view mirrors

Convex rear view mirror is preferred over a plane in a card because while driving the driver needs to get a large view Convection mirror show a very large view because they collect large amount of light in a small space to form an upright and diminished image that is why in rear view mirror there is written that the objects in mirror are closer than they appear.
