Why are convex mirrors preferred to plane mirrors as rear-view mirrors?

because they have more surface area than a plane mirror and they form virtual and ERECT image of the object irrespective of its distance from the mirror.

With reference to plane mirrors ....the convex mirror forms diminished image so one can have the image of more traffic following it.
