why are cork cell called protective tissue

When eperdemis cell became cell they form a thick protective tissue known as Cork.
Cork cells are therefore dead cell which are arranged with any intercellular space which make them impervious to gases and water and prevent water loss. Moreover they provide rigidity to the cells...

hyy...cork tissue are present on the outermost surface of the tree, and take any impact inflicted upon the tree. it also provide rigidity to the plant and cover the vascular tissue of the plant , projecting them from physical blow ....so they are called protective tissue .
