To avoid the risk of skidding as well as to reduce the wear and tear of the car tyres, the road surface at a bend is tilted inward, i.e., the outer side of the road is raised above its inner side. This is called banking of road.

Explanation:

When a vehicle moves round a horizontal curve on the road with sufficient speed, the necessary centripetal force is provided by the friction between the tyres and the road. So, to increase the centripetal force, friction should be increased which causes wear and tear of the tyres. ... So, roads are banked on curved path.
