Water Resources Projects are planned for various purpose like irrigation, Hydro Power Generation, Water Supply for Drinking and industrial purpose, Flood control, navigation etc. Projects which serves more then one purpose are called as Multipurpose projects.

Reasons for scrunity are:-

1.dams cause fragmentation of rivers and block the migration routes of aquatic fauna.

2.artificial reservoirs submerge some parts of natural vegetstion leading to the extinction of exotic flora and fauna.

3.  Large dams affect the natural flow of rivers. This results in hampering the flow of sediments.

4. The dams on the flood plains submerge the vegetation and soil leading to its gradual decomposition.
