Why are detergents non biodegradable while soaps are biodegradable?

Soaps are sodium salts of fatty acids and oils, while detergents are synthetic salts of ammonium and sulfates having long and branched carboxylic chains.

The organic compounds present in soap (Fatty acids and oils) make them more biodegradable than detergents.
