Why are detergents required to extract integral membrane proteins, but not peripheral membrane proteins?

Extrinsic or peripheral proteins are held loosely in the membrane , their removal is easy. They can be Removed simply by changing the pH.

Intrinsic proteins are deeply embedded in the membrane , hence for their isloation Detergents are necessary.
