why are different elements formed after nuclear fusion

Atoms of one element are squashed together the protons,neutrons and electrons all come together.
Ex:In the sun's core 4 hydrogen atoms are combined.
Two protons and two electrons are squashed to form a neutron.
Two more electrons and protons hang around
ie helium....
