Humans have three types of cells present in the eyes that help in perceiving colors.

  • They help in distinguishing red, blue, and green colors.

Dogs have only 2 types of cells.

  • Their retinas aren't able to understand certain colors.

  • They have less sensitivity towards brightness.

  • The blue color is easily visible to dogs.

  • There's a common misconception that dogs see in black and white, but this in fact is not true !

  • They face difficulty to differentiate between the shades of red and green due to the absence of specific cone cells in their eyes.

  • They just can't see as many colors as their handlers. This is because dogs only have two kinds of color-detecting cells (or cones) within their retinas.
  • And like people with red-green colorblindness, dogs perceive colors differently than humans with normal color vision.
