Why are doors provided with handles near the outer edges , far away from the hinges?

So to open the door in the right direction. If it was in the left located on the hinge side then would be difficult to open and this making uncomfortable for the person.. That is why the hinges are nailed either on left and the lock and latch on the right and vice versa.
