earthern pitchers have pores in them which allow water to evaporate the heat with it. To cool the water faster wet cloth is wrapped around it so that the heat gets cool and the water also condense.

The following are the reasons why a wet cloth is wrapped around water storage containers:

1. In summers the temperature is usually very high and water evaporates from the moist material and makes it drained. The earthen pots are permeable, taking the external heat and make the stuff wet. This method of moistening and dehydrating repeats and make the water in the container remains chilly.

2. A clay pot has tiny orifices in its surfaces. As a result, when the pot is filled with water, some of the water slowly drips through these small pores on its outer cover.

3. Thus, the water evaporates after leading there. The need for energy for evaporation is driven from the clay vessel and from the water in it. Accordingly, water in the pot remains cooled.
