Heya !!!

Here's your answer !!!

Epiphytic roots are not called Parasites...

First of all ,let me say what does a parasite mean ...

Parasites are the organisms that obtains it's requirements from the host by causing some harm to it...

Why the roots of epiphytes are not parasitic :

➡Epiphytes are the small plants that grow on the stem or branches of Large plants in the Tropical forests just to get exposed to sunlight to perform photosynthesis...

➡They don't obtain any nutrients or water from the plant/ tree on which it grow...

Epiphytes have two type of characteristic roots :

▶ Clinging roots : roots that help the epiphyte to get attached on the large tree....

▶Velamen roots : roots that help in absorption of moisture from the atmosphere with the help of hygroscopic tissue called velamen...

Since, the roots of epiphytes don't obtain any material from the plant /tree it is not called as parasitic roots...

Hope this helps you :)
