Why are evergreen forests found in Western slopes of the Western Ghats? Give any four characteristics of evergreen forests.

Evergreen forests are found on the western slopes of Western Ghats because :
(a) of warm and wet climatic conditions throughout the year.
(b) rainfall is above 200 cm with a very short dry season. Temperature is uniformally high at 30°C and 80% humidity.

Characteristics of evergreen forests are :
(a) Trees are tall, thick and have luxuriant growth. Some of them are over 60 metres.
(b) These hardwood forests have a large number of species growing together, with a thick undergrowth. This region has vegetation of different kinds 2': trees, shrubs and creepers.
(c) Examples : Mahogany, Ebony, Bamboo, Rosewood, etc.
