It is simply a matter of definition. Because feces are basically the remnants, remains, leftovers of food ingested but not digested (hence the remains,) its removal is named egestion.

Excretion is defined as removal of newly created chemicals, not ingested, by the various reactions in cells called metabolism. It is the removal of metabolic wastes, usually by urination and sweating, of which there are few. Water, salts and urea are the primary ones. The water and salts excreted are newly created compounds, not the same you ingest as food. Well, not exclusively. It is not precise. Some water and a little salt may simply have been ingested. Ingested penicillin would also be removed with excretory wastes in urine. Also there may be some excretory waste mixed with feces.
