Why are fats called energy store in our body
Answers
fats are called energy store in our body because it stores energy and protect our vital organs. it carry nutrients and proteins to different part of the body.
hope it helps u
The majority of energy in your body is stored as triglycerides in adipose tissue (fat). Triglycerides are a very efficient energy store because they are energy-rich and can be used by many of the tissues in the body to generate energy during fasting and exercise by the biochemical pathways of fatty acid oxidation and the Kreb’s cycle. One very clear advantage of storage of energy as fat is that it is very hydrophobic (does not associate with water) and therefore weighs a lots less than stored carbohydrate (glycogen) does.
It is important to remember that the body also contains stored carbohydrate (glycogen) and protein that can be used for energy production during fasting, exercise and times of stress. However there are only hours of energy stored as carbohydrate in muscle and the liver vs. months of energy in stored fats in the adipose tissue. The body also contains a large amount of energy as protein, but the protein serves a functional role, providing structure or activity that enables the body to function. When the body cannibalizes its stored protein during stress or starvation or in response to glucocorticoid drugs, it can have great impact on daily function, making the body weaker and less functional. Nevertheless, the body does have large amounts of protein that can be used to provide energy during advanced states of fasting.
