Light sandy or clayey loams are considered to be best suited for growing jute.Hence,it grows well in the flood plains. Since jute rapidly exhausts the fertility of the soils, it is necessary that the soils are replenished annually by the silt-laden flood waters of the rivers.

This is so because JUTE is a plant which requires a lot of water to grow and floods can provide a lot amount of water.
This is the reason why many jute farms are on Ganga basin
