Flowers are generally colorful and good smelling to attract insects for pollination.
Pollination is the transfer of male germ cells, ie, pollen grain from the anther to the stigma.
When insects get attracted to the flowers because of their color of fragrance and sit on them, the male pollen grains stick to them and when they sit on another flower, they get transferred to the stigma of another flower resulting in cross-pollination.
