Why are fossils considered important in the study of evolution? Explain two ways by which age of fossils can be estimated?

they are helpful for us:
1: the give us the time in history when different species were formed or became extinct.
2:They also help us to trace the evolutionary history of some animals.
3:They also indicate connecting links between two groups of organisms. ie. connecting link between reptiles n birds.

Fossils provide evidence in favour of evolution. They establish evolutionary relationship by providing missing links.


Age of fossils can be determined by the folloeing ways :-


1. Relative method

Fossils found closer to the surface are more recent than those in depperlayer.


2. By detecting the ratios of different isotopes of the same element in the fossils material.
