Why are fresh water reserves less on the surface of the earth?

Because the earth contains a ver high percentage of salt water which is 97% of the total and 3% is the fresh the lakes carry all the water melted from glaciers and ⛰ to the and seas and the salt water cannot be turned back to glaciers.
