GASES HAVE LOTS OF INTER MOLECULAR SPACE BETWEEN EACH PARTICLE....AND CAN BE COMPRESSED WHEREAS...IN SOLIDS THE PARTICLES R ALREADY..CLOSELY PACKED WITHOUT ANY SPA CE IN BETWEEN THEM. SO CANNOT BE COMPRESSED.

Gases are highly compressible because their particles are further apart and held by weak chemical bondings. Their particles can be forced to come closer together. On the other hand, solids particles are closely packed together and held by strong forces of attraction . There is less space amid them and therefore cannot be compressed.
