why are gases so easily compressible whereas it is almost impossible to compress a solid or a liquid

because the gases have huge intermolecular space whereas in the solids the intermolecular space is very small due to which it cannot be compressed much

Gases are easily compressible because the have large intermolecular spaces between the atoms. But in solids and liquids its lesser compared to gases. So, its easy to compress matter having large intermolecular space.
