Germinating seeds are used for the experiment to test CO2 as theseeds release CO2 and take in oxygen

Which is opposite to they of the plants who take in co2 and give out oxygen

because germinating seed in the test tube contain moisture.the moisture reacts with potassium hydroxide to give water and potassium oxide.
