why are glassware typically wrapped in sawdust or paper pieces while putting them for transportation

when the glass where is transporting from one place to another then it can move from one place to another so the glass where is wrapped in the paper pieces, and it is a chance to broke the glass

There are collision between the packed ware due to jèrk experience during transportation.

But the soft packing material slow down their rate of change of momentum.

The force of impact is reduced & items are not broken.
