Glassware is usually delicate or fragile. To prevent damage due to impact or collision during transportation it's wrapped in straw,as straw absorbs mechanical shock or impact.

Glassware are wrapped in paper or straw before packing to avoid any breakage during transportation.

There are collision between the packed ware due to jèrk experience during transportation.

But the soft packing material slow down their rate of change of momentum.

The force of impact is reduced & items are not broken.
