Green plants are called producers because -

• In our environment, the food chain begins with the green plants.

• Unlike the most of the other members of the food chain in our environment, the green plants are able to produce their food without depending on any other living being of our environment. Plants only use non-living natural resources like water, minerals, oxygen to make their food.

• For this quality of producing own food materials in an independent way,we call the green plants as the 'producers' of the environment.
