Helicopters are used to transport food during calamities because they are smaller in size as compared to aeroplanes. They don't need an airport for landing because they can land at almost any place and help in transporting food and other essential things to the people effected by calamities. They can easily reach places where road or any other mode of transport can't reach. They are also one of the fastest means of transport.
