why are hereditary variations important?

Because if it is not there then all people around us will be same and we can't identify one another. But some features could be same because of genes.

nimmi5: Nice question but they too don't look alike spent some time with them and u will see the special features of that bird and get to know how they are different from others . I define your pet dog from the stay dogs .

Because variation is important for survival of a species..... Suppose all the members in a species living in a cold region are same and then climate becomes warm due to global warming... As a result all the members will die if they couldn't tolerate the high temperature.. If there were variations in some members they could tolerate the climate change and hence the species would survive....
