Himalayas ate called young fold mountains because the movement of the tectonic plates has resulted in the formation of the Himalayas. The breaking up of Gondwana land led to the collision between the lndo-Australian plate and a larger Eurasian plate.

Due to the collisidn, the sedimentary rocks which were accumulated in the Tethys, folded to become the mountain system of the Himalayas.

Himalayas are young mountains because they represent a youthful topography with high peaks, deep valley and fast flowing rivers.
