In Assam especially places near chera-punji receives very heavy rainfall due to early and the late monsoon winds ,even Assam receives more rainfall than any other state in India and is also a flood prone area ,if the houses would be be built on a normal surface the houses would be flooded the roof of the slit houses also helps by not storing water on the terrace ,thereby reducing the risks of diseases  like malaria and dengue

Houses in Assam are built on stilts cuz...as Assam is a place where there is abundant rainfall. Sometimes , there may be a heavy rainfall and lead to floods. So , these houses are built on stilts.
