It is because about 400,000 cubic yards of concrete and 66,000 tons of steel are required in the construction of a new nuclear power plant. Therefore, although not emitting during electricity generation, a lot of carbon dioxide is emitted during the construction of a nuclear power plant and the processing of its fuel compared with other electricity generating technologies.
