to provide stregth to the block of ice as
saw dust absorbs water and hardens when freezed.
if you hammer the freezed with saw dust it will not broak easily as normal ice.
it also lets the ice to melt very-very slowly as compared to normal right.
it does ot allow much heat to melt ice.
