Let's take an example of Na
Na=2,8,1
So Na has one electron which does not allow it to be stable .
Now in sodium ion i.e. Na+=2,8 (because it has lost one electron )
And as we know the electronic configuration in which the no. of electron in the outer most is 8 is the stablest.

Answer:
ions are stable since they have their outermost shell complete.....but the parent atoms doesn't have its outermost shell complete....so they are not stable. mark as brainiest
