Why are iron sheets cleaned with hydrochloric acid before dipping into molten zinc for galvanizing?

It is done to clean everything from it. eg germs nd  this also prevents rust

HCl acid dissolves the metallic oxide coating on the surface of the metal, thereby cleans the surface. This is called pickling of metals. This is done before galvanizing.
