Kharif crops or monsoon crops are domesticated plants cultivated and harvested during the rainy (monsoon) season in South Asia, which lasts between April and October depending on the area. These crops are totally dependent upon rainfall. These crops are also known as summer crops.

Kharif crops are called summer crops because they are grown in summer season while Rabi crops are sown in winter season so they are known as winter crops.
