As per laws of reflection in physics, whenever you see something in mirror you see a horizontally reverted image which means that if something is in right to you in real, it will appear to your left in mirror and same goes for alphabets. Each and every alphabet appears horizontally inverted when seen in mirror.
In case of ambulances, its urgent to give way so that the patient can reach hospital in time. Just to make reading easy, alphabets are already written in reverse so that when seen in read view mirror, a driver can read it in normal font.
i hope it will help you

let's s suppose imagine you are driving a vehicle. Behind your back there is a ambulance ( letters are not inverted). There is a medium traffic. You look the mirror. could you able to notify it's name. no. if they are inverted as they are, by looking through mirror you can able read it's name and give a way to reach hospital.
