Lizard is a reptile and it is a cold blooded,so cannot maintain it's body temperature.Their body temperature changes with environment temperature.Their body temperatue lowers as the atmospheric temperature lowers. Change in temperature affect their behaviour and in bodily function. So they becomes inactive, during winter and undergo winter sleep. They undergo hibernation.Hibernation is nothing but a state of deep sleep in order to survive in winter season without eating much.
