Lyophilic solutions are the ones in which the solute particles have an affinity toward the water. Thus there is a strong force of attraction between the two which makes them more stable.
Whereas, in lyophobic solutions, the solute particles do not have an affinity towards water which leads to a repulsive force between the two. This makes them unstable.
