Why are lysosomes are also known as scavengers of the cell

They are called so because they digest or destroy any foreign body that enters inside the cell which is not needed by the cell body.

Heya friend,

Cell is having many cell organnels in it which performs different functions in a cell, from digestion to reproduction.

One such cell organnel is LYSOSOMES. LYSOSOMES are called scavengers and suicidal bags of cell.

Lysosomes helps digesting foreign bodies that enter the cell and they are able to do this because they have special enzymes which are capable for breaking down the organic matter. That's why called scavengers.

And they are called suicidal bags because whenever the cell bursts down, the enzymes of lysosomes digests it's own cell and thus called suicidal bags of cell.

Lysosomes are made by golgi apparatus.
