Lysosomes contain membrane - bound sacs with powerful digestive enzymes to digest the worn - out cell organelles. When the cell
gets damaged, lysosomes burst and the enzymes digest their own cell, hence called as “suicidal bags of a cell”. It is a waste disposal system of the cell.

Lysosomes are called suicide bags because of presence of these large number of acid hydrolases in them. Only a thin membrane separates the destructive enzymes from the rest of the cell. And if the membrane happens to get broken, various cellular constituents would undergo lysis.
