Lysosomes contain digestive enzymes for breaking down foreign material from outside the cell. However, if there is an organelle in the cell that is damaged and cannot be repaired, or somehow the lysosomes are cut open, they burst open and release the enzymes to digest the ENTIRE CELL. Therefore, they are known as suicide bags of the cell.
