Lysosome contain certain enzymes which are capable of digesting the whole cell.When a cell is damaged the lysosomes burst and the enzymes digest the whole cell.This is why they are also known as suicide bags as the enzymes in it digest the whole cell whenever the cell is not functioning properly.

• If the cell is damaged, the lysosomes undergo autolysis and burst open.
• This results in the release of those hydrolytic enzymes.
• The released enzymes then digest their own cell and ultimately the cell dies.

Hence, they are called as suicidal bags of the cells.
