Why are marbles used in making building but no chalks though both of them are formed formed from the same mineral

Both marble and chalk are created from calcium carbonate compound. ... Chalk is very fragile and soaks water which is not good for making buildings on the other hand, marble is very hard and water repellent. That's why we use marble for building making
