Why are marbles used in making buildings but not chalks though both of them are formed from the same mineral 'calcite'?​

Both marble and chalk are created fromcalcium carbonate compound. But due to the physical characteristics difference of this two materials,only marble is used in building making. Chalk is very fragileand soaks water which is not good formaking buildings on the other hand,marble is very hard and water repellent.
